Budd, Cruz, Colleagues Introduce Bill Protect Military Installations from Adversary Land Purchases

Washington, D.C. — Today, Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) has co-sponsored the Protecting Military Installations and Ranges Act.

The bill would protect Department of Defense installations and training areas from our adversaries. The bill restricts the purchase of certain property by a foreign person acting for or on behalf of Russia, China, Iran, or North Korea.

The bill was led by Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX).

Senator Budd said in a statement:

“The Chinese Communist Party’s purchase of land near military facilities around our country is a direct threat to our national security. This practice must be stopped to keep military installations in North Carolina and around the country secure. I’d like to thank Senator Cruz for leading this critical legislation.”

Senator Cruz said:

“Foreign adversaries are exploiting loopholes to acquire land near our military bases and training routes, jeopardizing the safety of our troops and the integrity of our operations. I am proud to introduce this legislation, which will block our adversaries from acquiring assets that could undermine our defense. I urge the Senate to expeditiously take it up and pass it.”
