Washington, D.C. — In a speech on the Senate floor, Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) listed a series of actions taken by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas that caused the crisis at the southern border.
Senator Budd also warned Senate Democrats against dismissing the impeachment charges against Secretary Mayorkas.
Key excerpts:
“In order to be a strong nation, we have to have strong borders. And right now, we don’t have that. We haven’t had that for three years.”
“From the very beginning of his tenure at DHS, Secretary Mayorkas has intentionally undermined security at the southern border again and again and again.”
“The bottom line is that this is nothing short of a dereliction of duty on the part of Secretary Mayorkas. He must be held accountable. And that’s why he was the second cabinet secretary ever to be impeached by the House of Representatives.”
“The U.S. Senate has a Constitutional duty to take these charges seriously and conduct a full trial on the merits. To do anything less would be an insult to the victims of these open border policies.”
