Washington, D.C. — Today, Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) released a statement after the Department of Defense published the names of Chinese military companies operating directly or indirectly in the United States.
On January 29, 2024, Senator Budd led a group of seven Senators to send a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin pressing the Pentagon to release the list, as required by Section 1260H of the Fiscal Year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act.
Senator Budd said:
“While I’m glad the Biden Administration has finally published the 1260H list as required by law, it is significantly shorter than expected. The Chinese Communist Party’s policy of civil-military fusion is gravely concerning, and the 1260H list is our primary tool to highlight and counter this threat. China’s efforts threaten the transparency, reciprocity, and shared values that underpin international collaboration and fair business practices. I will be working with my colleagues on the Armed Services Committee to further strengthen 1260H. I will also be taking a close look at firms who do business with companies that directly threaten the national security of the United States.”
